Most personality questionnaires rely on self-report: you decide how well a statement describes you. Language analysis uses a different source of evidence — the messages, captions, and conversations you already wrote. Neither input is a perfect ground truth. Chat-based typing is most useful as an observer-view hypothesis about how you communicate, checked against repeated examples and reported with uncertainty.
What is chat-based typing?
Chat-based typing is a linguistic-analysis method that scores personality markers found in your natural writing. Rather than a one-off quiz, it evaluates the words, structures, and rhythms you use across contexts — then maps them onto established frameworks. You choose what to include: public posts from X, Reddit, or Instagram, or a consensual chat export you control.
What text can add—and what it cannot replace
A questionnaire and a language sample answer different questions. The first captures how you describe yourself under a particular instrument; the second captures the persona visible in the writing you supplied. More text can expose repeated communication patterns, but volume alone does not remove context, sampling, model, or interpretation error.
A different bias profile
Natural text avoids some test-taking and self-presentation effects, but it introduces audience, platform, topic, and sampling effects of its own.
Repeated observations
Messages across days can reveal recurring patterns that a one-sitting questionnaire may miss. Longer samples help, but do not guarantee accuracy.
Context can be compared
Work, close-friend, and public writing can be read separately before looking for patterns that recur across contexts.
Receipts make claims testable
A useful report connects each inference to examples so you can accept, reject, or revise it instead of trusting a label blindly.
How TypeMyVibe works, in minutes
- Share your words. Paste links to public posts or upload a consensual chat export.
- We analyze privately. Short-lived containers run the models, score each lens, then wipe the source.
- Get a unified report. One read unifies MBTI, Enneagram, Big Five, Alignment, and Attitudinal Psyche — with evidence pulled from your own lines.

What we measure from language
We combine transparent heuristics with model-based scoring. These signals contribute probabilistically; none maps cleanly to a type on its own:
- Abstraction vs. concreteness — a preference for ideas and patterns versus examples and procedures.
- Directive vs. exploratory tone — decisiveness, evaluation language, and confidence markers.
- Social and emotional markers — empathy cues, perspective-taking, and affiliation language.
- Information density and structure — length, qualifiers, hedging, and the hierarchy of your claims.
- Temporal focus — past reflection versus future planning.
Those features inform five frameworks, each with a different evidence base and interpretation:
MBTI
Information orientation and decision style — read from how you frame and resolve ideas in writing.
Enneagram
Core motive and fear patterns surfacing through what you defend, chase, and avoid.
Big Five / SLOAN
Stability and plasticity facets inferred from phrasing, hedging, and emotional tone.
Alignment + Attitudinal Psyche
Moral orientation and stance toward problems — how you relate to rules, people, and ideas.
Limits a responsible text-based read should disclose
- It estimates expressed persona. Text is better suited to describing how someone comes across than revealing a hidden, context-free “true self.”
- Register changes the evidence. Work Slack, a best-friend chat, public posts, and a support conversation pull different behavior from the same person.
- Topics can masquerade as traits. Writing about anxiety, parties, or planning does not by itself prove Neuroticism, Extraversion, or Conscientiousness.
- Frameworks are not equally validated. Big Five language research can support modest trait inference; MBTI, Enneagram, Alignment, and Attitudinal Psyche outputs are more interpretive and should be framed accordingly.
- Uncertainty is part of the result. Sparse, contradictory, quoted, role-played, or one-context text should produce lower confidence or no call—not a more confident story.
Evidence and further reading
- Park and colleagues on personality estimates from social-media language — useful correlations, but well short of perfect questionnaire agreement.
- A large-scale study of MBTI-related linguistic differences — evidence of group-level language patterns, not a diagnostic rule for individuals.
- A meta-analysis of text-based personality assessment — effects depend on sample length and are stronger for observer ratings than self-report.
Privacy-first by design
Privacy is the foundation, not a footnote. Files are processed in short-lived containers and deleted after analysis — we don't retain your chat data or sell it. Read the full privacy promise for the specifics.
